Federico Chiesa has decided to stay at Liverpool this summer, even though he struggled for game time last season.
The Italian winger joined the Reds from Juventus for just £10 million last year but spent much of his first campaign sidelined with a muscle injury. He managed only one Premier League appearance before January.
Despite speculation about a possible move away, Chiesa has informed the club he wants to remain at Anfield. With Luis Diaz sold to Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez also leaving, Liverpool suddenly find themselves short of attacking options.
The club tried to land Newcastle’s Alexander Isak with a £110 million bid, but it was quickly rejected. No further offers are expected unless Newcastle change their stance.
This could open the door for Chiesa to play a much bigger role under new manager Arne Slot. Liverpool have added Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz this summer, but Chiesa’s experience and quality could make him a key figure if he can stay fit.
